Market research, report on the competition

Friday, March 31, 2006

Now for something with more direct interest to Althaven: Wetpaint this company has just released a friendly user-editable wikis , They went beta March 6

I took the tour, the interface is clean ala google/ikea. The nav and tagging system is simple, it features "cute" graphical toolbars for creation and editing.

The initial offering has six pre-seeded community wikis, with subjects ranging from light to serious.

Note: While users can't create their own wikis they can add pages to the existing categories.

Creating your own forum won't be available until Wetpaint has finihed data gathering and analysis on how people are using the initial wikis.

I think that's a mistake and gives us a window. Also no Fu that I've found (but I haven't looked at it in depth yet.)

Cheers To All!

Spent the day on the slopes yesterday and am amazingly still alive and I'm writing this from a hotel lobby in Vale, for the time being life is good.

I may have a chance to talk to someone heavily involved with the development of Linkedin in the next couple of weeks, any questions any Havenites would like asked? By the way Linkedin is now profitable as of the end of Feb. 06.

Take it easy.

G-Mail Drive - Free Space

Talked to paul this afternoon and told him I'd post this. Anita and I've been playing a GMail Drive and it seems to work well as a shared file space. (we're running broadband over wireless B so 11 mbs)

This one has the advantage of showing up as a folder that you can drop and drag files to as apposed to the Firefox drive that requires a browser.

This will work with the Althaven gmail account that I set up a while ago.

Try it out see what you think.

Cheers

Many CIA employees and locations are easily identified by Internet searches, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Not as big a deal as the headlines make out but something to consider.

He stuck in his thumb and pulled out a "Plum" or perhaps a "Kaboodle"

Technologies from the Demo conference. Some ideas we can incorporate, modify, niche or expand on, appropriate seems so impolite. Food for thought!

Perhaps next year we will be presenting!

OK, This is off topic, but we're all Star Trek fans: 'Antigravity' Propulsion System Proposed

An 'antigravity' propulsion system was proposed at the Space Technology and Applications International Forum (STAIF) in Albuquerque on Febuary 14 by Dr. Franklin Felber. His new exact solution to Einstein's gravitational field equation gives hope to space enthusiasts that it might be possible to accelerate space craft to speeds approaching that of light without crushing the contents of the craft.

If you read the article, it's very iffy, It was read at a space technology conference not one on theoretical gravity & relativity but hey maybe!
I'ts good to dream...........

Taking a break from packing

Lectures: PARC Forum in Palo Alto

I want to make this available, Almost every Thursday afternoon at Xerox Parc are lectures from world class scientists, The lectures range from the interface between science and religion to beer to AI and the web. I haven't been attending lately but looking over the last couple of months many of the lectures have been relevant to AltHaven. Lectures are always free, with an open question period at the end. Most of the current lectures and a lot of previous years are archived and viewable on the web, (see the Archive link on the Parc Events page)

Enjoy!
